Defence mechanisms and neurotic needs
Behaviour refers to the actions or reactions of an organism, usually in relation to the environment. Behavior can be conscious or subconscious, overt or covert, and voluntary or involuntary. Human behavior can be common, unusual, acceptable, or unacceptable. Humans evaluate the acceptability of behavior using social norms and regulate behavior by means of social control. The following paragraphs will be talking about qualities of a person such as neurotic needs and defense mechanism. These are characteristic of a person. I will discuss on what are my defense mechanism and neurotic needs. I will also discuss on plan solutions toward my problems.
Defence mechanisms unconscious psychological strategies brought into play by various entities to cope with reality and to maintain self-image. Healthy persons normally use different defenses throughout life. One of my defence mechanisms is a displacements mechanism. Displacement mechanism is when frustration is normally taken on something else other than the one that caused it. Some examples that indicated this displacement mechanism is that when I am mad i usually take it out with innocent people other than the person or object that caused it. I usually shout at them of make faces onto them. I usually kick objects o break things just because of my anger. One of my solutions that I was thinking and I am carrying out to combat my defence mechanism is just calm done and think wisely about the situation. Then make intelligent decision. I see that whenever you make decision quickly without thinking, you always regret it. I see that my solution is working. Another defence mechanism which describes me is intellectualization. Intellectualization is when you think about or examine feelings as if you were another person passing that situation. Example that shows that I have this defence mechanism is that i usually give solution to problems as if I was passing through it. When there is unfaithfulness in a love relationship of my friend, I usually say that if I was you then I would leave that person. Sometimes my solution is not the best one because I am not completely feels what the other person feels.
One of my neurotic needs or deficiency that I have is that I usually restrict my life to narrow borders. I prefer to remain unnoticed and make my needs secondary. I usually don’t wish for material things. Some examples that show me this is that when I do things and it comes out the best, I usually say that someone else helped me and it’s not true. I don’t know for what reason I tend to do this. Another example is that I tend to clean the house but when someone asks, I usually say that it my sister. I like to remain unnoticed. One solution to this problem is that I should start to gain courage to say that it’s my job no matter if it’s bad or good. I usually say that because I am afraid of rejection or teasing. Another neurotic need which describes me is self sufficiency and independence. This is when you don’t want to be tied or dependent on other. I don’t like to depend on other and I prefer doing things all by myself and don’t ask for help. A solution to this defence mechanism is to try to learn from other people and don’t be ego centric and ask questions. Sometimes when I depend on others they usually tend to fail and it affects me. This is a good quality for a person because they always tend to learn and succeed in life.
In conclusion we can say that neurotic needs and defence mechanism is what moulds us. These theories are what gives and creates our identity. All stages are healthy unless overused. Usually there are problem when focus on one area.
